1. The Berlin Wall and East Side Gallery
If you’d like to immerse yourself in Cold War history, this won’t disappoint.
The Gallery is a surviving stretch of the Berlin Wall, the fortified barrier that once divided Germany into two halves: the democratic West and the communist East. It fell in November 1989, during the Peaceful Revolution.
The East Side Gallery transforms the remaining structure into a colourful memorial. It’s an open-air gallery on the banks of the river, offering peaceful reflection and learning for anyone who visits. Murals completed by professional artists explore themes of freedom and political expression.

2. Around the Brandenburg Gate
A symbol of unity and one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, the Brandenburg Gate should be admired by everyone on a Berlin city break. This neoclassical monument once marked the division between East and West Berlin but now symbolizes unity in the country.
After admiring it from all angles, why not explore some nearby attractions?
The Reichstag Building was the home of the German parliament until 1933, when it was damaged by fire. It still serves as a governmental meeting point, and tourists can explore its contemporary glass dome and rooftop with panoramic views. You’ll just need to book your ticket in advance.
3. Museum Island
This cultural haven is a must-visit for anyone who loves history and expanding their general knowledge. Home to five world-renowned museums, this corner of Berlin could keep you entertained for a day.

4. Tiergarten
Need a breather from the hustle and bustle of the city? This sprawling park is right in the heart of Berlin and offers the perfect backdrop for a peaceful walk or relaxing picnic.
Once a royal hunting ground, today it offers a more serene environment for visitors to relax and take some time out. It’s also home to the Berlin Zoo and the iconic Victory Column, which both provide plentiful opportunities to pass the time as a family.
Adults will enjoy a taste of locally brewed lagers at one of the park’s many biergartens, while children can enjoy the sounds of live music every Sunday night during the summertime. There’s also an open-air gas lantern museum to admire.
